Driven & Kept

Matte paint & wraps

A low-gloss finish or an applied film needs its own care instructions.

01 / IDENTIFY

Find the paint or film maker and installer guidance. Matte paint, matte vinyl and matte protection film are different systems.

02 / CARE

Use the exact finish’s permitted wash method. Inspect edges and contamination gently, and preserve the intended appearance.

03 / KEEP SEPARATE

Do not assume a gloss-enhancing wax, abrasive polish or high-pressure edge treatment is suitable. 3M specifically cautions against abrasive polishes and wax products on matte or textured films.

Pause and reassess if:

Film edges lift, the surface changes sheen, or a new installation has not passed its stated curing period.

WORK FROM THE ACTUAL MATERIAL

This file is a starting decision framework, not a chemical compatibility certificate. Check the vehicle specification, any installer paperwork and the label of the exact product you plan to use. If these instructions disagree, resolve the mismatch with the relevant manufacturer before proceeding.
